Here’s how the master’s in medical sciences program works: You’ll enter a cohort of motivated learners like you. Starting in August, your group will begin learning about the genetics of human disease, social and behavioral determinants of health and much more.

You’ll appreciate our small class sizes, our knowledgeable health professions advisors and our extremely dedicated faculty. In addition to the rigorous advanced study of laboratory sciences, our students in the Medical Sciences Traditional program receive opportunities for supplemental instruction and workshops to gain a host of skills to help improve their confidence in preparation for the rigors of medical or other health professions programs.

In just five semesters, you’ll graduate with a master’s in medical sciences — an accomplishment that will enhance your professional success and serve as a springboard for competitive health degree programs. We’ve got you.

What You'll Learn

What can you look forward to as you pursue our Master of Medical Sciences Traditional degree? You’ll gain 54 graduate-level credit hours that will prepare you for advanced degrees in medicine, physician assistant programs, allied health programs and research, among other fields.

You’ll also complete a structured clinical practicum, and our health professions advising staff will help you prepare for the MCAT, GRE or DAT — for free!

Our courses ensure you will be able to:

  • Identify ethical issues that arise during medical research and patient care.
  • Understand the structure and function of anatomy and physiology.
  • Evaluate how molecular and cellular changes can be determinants of various human diseases.
  • Learn how therapeutic interventions manipulate genetic and cellular machinery.

Agnes Scott has strong working relationships and partnerships with many premier institutions. Students benefit from a physician-designed signature course series to enhance your competitive profile, including courses in Professional Success in Medicine and Health and a clinical practicum.

You will develop your clinical skills and complete a community service project or volunteer experience in an Atlanta hospital, clinic or nonprofit. And some of your faculty will include M.D.s and other health professionals, in addition to our Ph.D. faculty.

Careers With Our M.S. in Medical Sciences Traditional Degree

Most students in our Master of Science in Medical Sciences Traditional program plan to apply to medical schools and other health professions advanced programs. During the 2022-2023 medical school application cycle, 100% of qualified Agnes Scott College master’s and post-baccalaureate students were admitted to the medical school or health professions program of their choice.*

As a student in the M.S. in medical sciences traditional program, you’ll complete an MCAT (or GRE, DAT or related) test preparation course based on the health profession you plan to pursue. Students can choose between Princeton Review or Blueprint to complete their test prep course at no additional cost.

The primary goal of this program is to prepare you for medical school and health professions programs; this degree may also benefit students seeking other related pathways. You may choose to work in a hospital, medical practice, research organization, clinic, educational community or in other broader community settings.

*Qualified applicants are defined as those who completed their program at Agnes Scott with a 3.50 GPA or higher and scored at or above the 50th percentile on the MCAT/DAT/GRE.
