Program Overview: Accelerated M.S. in Medical Sciences Program

Distinguish yourself for competitive medical and health professions programs through our Master of Science in Medical Sciences Accelerated program.

Planning to apply to medical school or another health professions program for the next academic year? Make the most of your time with the Master of Science in Medical Sciences Accelerated program at Agnes Scott College.

Our 12-month (three-semester), full-time program is ideal for students with a strong academic record who seek a year of intensive graduate study before pursuing medical school or a PA program.

Through our acclaimed cohort model, you will complete the accelerated M.S. in medical sciences program through in-person study, beginning in the summer or fall semester. When you graduate, you’ll be a more competitive applicant for postgraduate health professions.

What You’ll Learn

Our accelerated Master of Science in Medical Sciences program enhances your academic record with a solid foundation in medical and advanced biomedical sciences. You’ll also complete a complementary MCAT, GRE or DAT test preparation course alongside other members of your cohort.

You’ll benefit from a physician-designed signature course series to enhance your competitive profile, including courses in Professional Success in Medicine and Health, along with a clinical practicum. You’ll develop your clinical skills and complete a community service project or gain volunteer experience in an Atlanta hospital, clinic or nonprofit.

Building on the pre-medical course requirements, our M.S. in medical sciences accelerated program includes graduate-level courses in anatomy and physiology, medical cell biology, genetics, public health and medical biochemistry, among others. You will learn to:

  • conduct statistical analyses of data for medical and health care purposes
  • study structures and functions at the molecular, cellular, organ and system levels
  • analyze medical literature and its impact on medicine and society
  • examine social and cultural influences on human health

Take Advantage of Academic Partnerships That Set You Apart

Agnes Scott College and Morehouse School of Medicine are partners with a linkage agreement for medical sciences master’s students who meet specific criteria. Eligible students enrolled full-time in this master’s program, who start in the summer semester, are invited to apply for this linkage to the M.D. degree at Morehouse University School of Medicine.*

Agnes Scott also maintains strong relationships with premier health care institutions and hospitals in Atlanta, including Emory School of Medicine, Mercer School of Medicine and Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy.

*Linkage opportunities are only available to Medical Science Accelerated students who begin their studies in the summer semester.

Accelerate Your Career Through Personal Advising

In our M.S. in medical sciences accelerated program, you’ll benefit from our team of health professions advisers as they walk with you through each step of the application process.

Qualified students will receive a personalized, detailed committee letter for your health professions applications. Each letter is tailored to your unique strengths and accomplishments. You can take advantage of this service for up to one year after you complete the program, and you can access your confidential letters through our dossier service.

As an added perk, all medical sciences students receive an Interfolio account. Health professions advisers guide you through the process to store committee letters and application materials in your Interfolio Dossier, which connects directly with the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS).

Pathways and Careers With Our M.S. in Medical Sciences Degree

Most students in our accelerated Master of Science in Medical Sciences program plan to apply to medical schools and other health professions advanced programs. During the 2022-2023 medical school application cycle, 100% of qualified Agnes Scott College master’s and post-baccalaureate students were admitted to the medical school or health professions program of their choice.*

As a student in the accelerated M.S. in medical sciences program, you’ll complete an MCAT (or GRE, DAT or related) test preparation course based on the health profession you plan to pursue. Students can choose between Princeton Review or Blueprint to complete their test prep course at no additional cost.

While the primary goal of this program is to prepare you for medical school and health professions programs, this degree may also benefit students seeking other related pathways. You may choose to work in a hospital, medical practice, research organization, clinic, educational community or other broader community settings.

*Qualified applicants are defined as those who completed their program at Agnes Scott with a 3.50 GPA or higher and scored at or above the 50th percentile on the MCAT/DAT/GRE.
