Sophomore Class Atlanta Leadership Experience (SCALE)

Discover What's Possible. Right Here in Atlanta.

In your first year, you went on a Global Journey. In your second, you’ll discover a world of possibility in your own backyard.

During SCALE (Sophomore Class Atlanta Leadership Experience), you’ll step beyond the classroom and into the world of work

As part of Peak Week, every sophomore joins a team and partners with an Atlanta-area corporation or nonprofit organization for a weeklong externship. You’ll explore an organization, learn from professionals in the field, and put your leadership skills into action.

Prepare. Immerse. Reflect.

Prepare.
You’ll have opportunities to attend workshops in advance of SCALE and to work with a faculty member and a peer SCALE Leader on the Monday of Peak Week to prepare for your experience. Building on what you learned in your first-year Leadership Seminar course, you’ll develop the skills and questions you’ll need to make the most of your time with your partner organization.

Immerse.
Then, it’s time to step into the real world. For three days, you’ll be on site with your partner organization, observing leaders at work and gaining a firsthand look at the challenges and opportunities organizations face. You’ll contribute to conversations, analyze real organizational questions, creatively solve problems, and share your ideas.

Reflect.
Your SCALE experience doesn’t end when you leave your partner organization. You’ll spend a final day with faculty reflecting on what you discovered, what you learned about yourself as a leader, and how your experience connects to your future. You’ll identify next steps as you prepare for internships, research, and other opportunities within your major. Your classroom is getting bigger. SCALE gives you the chance to try on a career, test your skills, and see where your education can take you. You’ll build confidence. You’ll expand your professional network. You’ll practice leadership in a real-world setting. And you’ll begin connecting what you’re learning at Agnes Scott to the work you want to do in the world.
