Your Four-Year Advising Experience

Academic Advising begins your first year at Agnes Scott and extends through your entire undergraduate experience.

At each step of your college journey, we'll support you as you discover and explore your interests and build a foundation for a successful career and rich life.

First-Year Experience

Your first year is an exciting time in your academic career! This is your chance to explore your academic areas of interest, engage in co-curricular activities that you find meaningful, and reflect with your SUMMIT Advisor about how these experiences are shaping your sense of academic purpose.

In your first semester you'll take the SUM 110 Academic Foundations Lab. In this lab, your SUMMIT Advisor will help you think about your learning in new ways and help you develop effective learning strategies designed to ease your transition to college-level work. This course will also increase your understanding of the value of Agnes Scott's distinctive liberal arts degree, which integrates global leadership development with major and career exploration.

Sophomore Year Experience

Your sophomore year is a pivotal time in your academic career at Agnes Scott. Not only will you declare your major by the end of the year — you will also use this year to plan for co-curricular opportunities in research, study abroad and professional endeavors.

You'll take part in programs like "Pizza, a Major & Specialization," where seniors from every major and specialization share their experiences with you, and the "Sophomore Scoop," where you'll learn more about the Sophomore Class Atlanta Leadership Experience (SCALE). These signature programs will help you narrow your options, choose your academic major, and explore professional communities.

By the end of the sophomore year, you'll add to your Board of Advisors by choosing your Major Advisor from the faculty of the department you will have chosen for your major.

Junior Year Experience

Your junior year focuses on deepening your academic studies. Junior year is also often a time for immersing yourself in research projects with faculty, internships for academic credit, study abroad or a combination of these activities.

During this year, you'll work closely with your Major Advisor on discipline-specific opportunities and connect with your SUMMIT Advisor and the Career Coaches to continue reflecting on how your co-curricular and classroom experiences are preparing you for your future.

Senior Year Experience

In your final year of study at Agnes Scott, your Board of Advisors will help you focus on pulling together all of the skills and experiences that you've collected throughout your college journey and help you get ready for life beyond Agnes Scott.
