Your Academic Advising Team

Who will you become while at Agnes Scott? What are your passions, convictions, and dreams? Your Board of Advisors will guide you in exploring these questions as you build an educational plan customized to fit your strengths, interests and life goals.

Boards of Advisors are a key component of SUMMIT, Agnes Scott’s signature program that prepares all students for leadership in a global society. Boards of Advisors operate under the auspices of the Office of Academic Advising, which coordinates all academic policies and procedures across the college, as well as disability services, academic approvals, and special curricular programs.

Your Board of Advisors

Your personalized Board of Advisors is an innovative team-based holistic advising model through which you work with a four-year SUMMIT Advisor, peer advising, career advising, and a major advisor (a faculty member).

Together, they will collaborate to help you integrate the many opportunities of SUMMIT into your learning journey. And together, they will challenge you to think deeply about your education and prepare for a meaningful life after Agnes Scott.

Your SUMMIT Advisor

Your SUMMIT Advisor will be in touch even before you arrive on campus and remain as a key point of contact throughout your entire undergraduate career. SUMMIT Advisors are academic professionals who are passionate about helping students get the most out of their Agnes Scott experience. They hold advanced degrees, certifications, and have broad knowledge about higher education.

Your SUMMIT Advisor will listen carefully and ask questions that encourage you to reflect on your goals, experiences, strengths and challenges. They also will assist you in pursuing opportunities for internships, mentored research, study abroad, service learning, leadership roles and participation in campus organizations that complement your interests and passions.

Your Peer Advisor

Your Peer Advisor is a trained upper-class student who will work with you during the summer before and throughout the fall semester of your first year to ensure a smooth transition to college life. Peer advisors are selected through a competitive process from an applicant pool of students who are high achieving, emerging leaders and represent the diversity of our student population.

Peer Advisors lead workshops on academic success strategies tailored for your area of academic specialization. They also field questions, listen to concerns, clarify college policies, and introduce new students to opportunities and resources across the campus.

Your Major Advisor

When you are ready to declare your major, typically before the end of your sophomore year, you will add a Major Advisor to your Board. Your Major Advisor is a faculty member in your chosen field who will provide discipline-specific guidance about such things as major requirements, mentored research, internships, shadowing experiences, professional networking and graduate school.

Career Advising

Career Advising is available for all students. You will have access to internship and career coaching, in addition to the SUMMIT Career Connect network of professionals. Career advisors provide one-on-one and workshop coaching, Alumnae@Agnes events and recruiter visits to expose students to career literacy and professional opportunities.
