The ACS Scholars Program awards renewable scholarships to underrepresented minority students majoring in undergraduate chemistry-related disciplines, and are also intending to pursue careers in chemistry-related fields. Selected recipients are awarded up to $5,000 per academic year.

(Charlisa Daniels ’05 was an ACS scholar and is working on her Ph.D. in chemistry at University of Houston. The summer research opportunities she pursued as an undergraduate through this program led to her being coauthor on a number of peer-reviewed journal articles.)

The Goldwater Scholarship Program, one of the oldest and most prestigious national scholarships in the natural sciences, engineering and mathematics in the United States, seeks to identify and support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming this Nation’s next generation of research leaders in these fields.

The characteristics the Foundation seeks in a Goldwater Scholar include:

• strong commitment to a research career in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering,

• effective display of intellectual intensity in the sciences, mathematics and engineering, and

• potential for a significant future contribution to research in his/her chosen field.

The American Chemical Society Women Chemistry Committee for the local Georgia section awards scholarships to one undergraduate female majoring in the chemical sciences that is currently enrolled in an undergraduate ACS program, majoring in chemistry or a related chemical science, has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate the qualities of a future leader in the chemical sciences.
