Teaching and Scholarly Interests

Mary Nell Higley Summey (she/her) is the Director of Post Baccalaureate Programs and Senior Instructor of Chemistry at Agnes Scott College. An alumna of Agnes Scott College, Mary Nell earned her undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics. Staying in the Atlanta area, she continued her chemistry studies with a Masters at Georgia Institute of Technology with a focus in organic polymer chemistry. After teaching high school chemistry in DeKalb Public Schools, Mary Nell joined the chemistry department at Agnes Scott in 2011 as the chemistry lab specialist. In 2016, she became the first Director of Post-Baccalaureate Programs. With a focus on teaching and helping students hone their study skills in our rigorous post-bacc programs, Mary Nell is proud to be a part of the health professions journey for a diverse student population! Outside of work, Mary Nell enjoys spending time with her partner and dogs, reading mystery novels or true crime, and cooking.
