New Undergraduate Students

No, we do not require students to have a personal computer; however, we highly recommend it. The college provides public computer labs throughout campus for student use.
Desktop systems are less expensive, but laptops are great for mobility, consume less electricity and take up less space.

Agnes Scott students, faculty and staff are eligible for educational discounts on personal computer hardware and software purchases.

Yes. All residence hall rooms have access to the campus wireless network (WoofWoofWifi). There is one emergency telephone available on each residence hall floor.  There are high definition cable TV services in common TV rooms in the residence halls.  You can stream cable services over the network using Hulu, Sling, Amazon Prime, and other streaming services.  Broadcasting or Multicasting devices or services (i.e., Chromecast, Google Home devices) are not allowed on the campus wireless network. Cellular service signal within the residence hall varies depending on your service provider.

ASC’s Wi-Fi service, Woof Woof Wi-Fi, is available all over campus. Access to WoofWoof Wi-Fi is made through your ASC network ID and password. You should not bring a wireless router.

  • Access to academic-related network file services
  • Email with Google’s Gmail service branded Scottiemail
  • Web access through standard browsers
  • Instant messenger and chat services
  • Access to the course management system, online phone directory, intranet, library services and AscAgnes, a password-protected site that allows students access to grades, class schedules, financial aid, transcript information and student account statements.
  • College licensed software required by some courses is available over the Internet.
A set of instructions are/were included in your orientation packet. If you need an additional copy, drop by the ITS Help Desk, Walters Basement.

A small inkjet for your room is fine. Thirty-seven multi-function printers are stationed around campus that support grayscale and color printing, photocopying and scanning.  Your student ID card will provide access to these devices.

Yes. Any personal computer connecting to the campus network must have an active antivirus program installed.

  • Mac Antivirus software: (free) Avast, AVG, Norton’s iVirus (paid) Bitdefender for Mac, Kapersky Virus Scanner, Norton for Mac and ClamXAV

We assist with issues related to connecting to the residence-hall network, diagnosing hardware problems and general operational issues. We cannot provide support for advanced system crashes or systems infected with a virus or malware.

NOTE: Some software specific to classes is available on campus computers and doesn’t need to be purchased when the College is open: e.g., SPSS, SAS, Maple, Spartan, STATA, Systat, MatLab, Fathom, Cje, Chem Office, MathCAD and various graphic design programs.

All Macs on campus have the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite installed. The Macs in McCain G-11 and G-37 have the latest Adobe Suite installed. 

While classes are conducted online, if you plan on working on projects off-campus that require the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, it’s suggested you purchase the Suite. Please refer to the Technology Discounts link to obtain the Agnes student discount for the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, or any other applications you may need for your courses.

Many of these applications are also available virtually through a link in you Canvas course(s).

Consider purchasing an external hard drive or a USB flash drive to back up your projects.

Along with your Agnes email, you receive a Google Drive account with unlimited storage, so feel free to store anything there as well.
