Housing Checkout Information

As you finish your finals or prep for graduation, please make sure you complete the proper checkout procedures to avoid any fees. Make sure to read the following information:

Important Dates

Residence halls, including Avery Glen and the living-learning community houses, close at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, for all non-graduating students. Any student who has not been approved for summer break housing will need to leave campus by this date and time.

Students volunteering at commencement are welcome to remain in their residence for free until Monday, May 13. Graduating students and student volunteers for the commencement ceremony must check out by Monday, May 13, at 10 a.m.

At 10 a.m. on May 13, Residence Life staff will begin their final sweep to clear the halls. Students who have not completed the check-out process or returned their keys will be billed an improper checkout fee as stated in the housing contract.

The Checkout Process

When you are ready to move out, please make sure to completely clear your side of the room. Leave nothing behind — no hangers, mirrors, shower curtains or trash cans. You must also clean your room before you check out.

Before you check out of your residence hall and leave campus, please:

  • Lock all windows and doors.
  • Turn the heat on low (68 degrees).
  • Empty the trash and recycling.
  • Turn off the lights.
  • Clear the common areas — kitchen, laundry room, lounges — of any of your belongings.
  • Clean the bathroom (if applicable).
  • Clean the kitchen and remove all items from the cabinets and fridge, if applicable.
  • Note any damages that facilities should address. Please tell your RA or complete a work order if anything in your room needs to be fixed by Facilities over the summer. If there are any damages you caused (not due to normal wear and tear), you will be charged. A general price list will be distributed to students but is subject to change based on the damage.
