Teaching and Scholarly Interests

Dr. Mitchell Toomey’s teaching centers counselor professional identity development and how to effectively use this to enhance the therapeutic alliance with clients. His goal is to help students cultivate authentic counseling identities grounded in relational and social justice frameworks. Additionally, is scholarly work examines the intersections of counselor identity, client wellness, and public policy.
