Teaching and Scholarly Interests

Professor Manes focuses her research on the cultural history of gender and identity formation in early modern Italy. She teaches courses on various topics in pre-modern European history, including motherhood and womanhood in the Italian Renaissance, family and gender in early modern Italy, and the history of science.
