alyah-releford-photo_small.jpgALyah Releford (she/her/hers), born and raised in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, is a returning second-year student at Agnes Scott College. She is currently undeclared but is interested in majoring in either Business Management or English Creative Writing. A’Lyah has previous experience with tutoring from her high school days. At the request of her AP Calculus teacher, A’Lyah would sometimes teach the Calculus Honors class whenever the teacher was unavailable. With this in her back pocket, A’Lyah feels excited to start her first year tutoring at the Center for Writing and Speaking and help Scotties of any discipline that come searching. In her free time, she likes to cook pancakes, read fantasy genre novels, and watch action movies. Some of the organizations A’Lyah has participated include Witkaze, Scottie Cheerleaders and Hosea Feed the Homeless. During the pandemic, A’Lyah partnered with Order of the Eastern Star and Atlanta Community Food Bank to give over five thousand pounds of free food to families in need. One of A’Lyah’s humanitarian dreams is to fund the building and operation of vertical gardens and halfway houses around the city of Atlanta. They would provide affordable organic food and safe housing for individuals and families. Her career interests are publishing and entrepreneurship. In the future, A’Lyah hopes to establish her own publishing house in order to bring Black authors and Black-centric writings to mainstream media.
