Legacy: The Goizueta Foundation Leadership Immersion

Legacy Wordmark

Legacy: The Goizueta Foundation Leadership Immersion is an engaging leadership foundations experience that spans over two days following orientation using the Agnes Scott College campus and local community as a backdrop for leadership development.

As part of Legacy, students will establish a deeper sense of self, develop meaningful relationships with peers, build their sense of connection to and membership within the Agnes Scott community, and much more. Legacy will give students the opportunity to participate in team challenge activities, discover their strengths, and become better prepared to take the lead in their college experience.

Legacy is a graduation requirement for all students on the SUMMIT Curriculum and occurs after orientation prior to the beginning of class. For the Class of 2021, Legacy will occur on Sunday, August 20 through Tuesday, August 22.

Comments on Legacy from the Class of 2020:

"I intend to use the skills I learned about in Legacy to further develop myself as a leader."

"I liked having the time to adjust to campus and get to know my peers. The World of Coke and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights were both great I wish I had more time at the civil rights history museum!"

"I intend to take what I learned through Legacy moving forward to apply leadership skills in working with a diverse group of people."

"As part of Legacy, I learned how to harness my strengths and use them for the greater good. Not being perfect in one area does not diminish my worth as a leader or person."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Legacy?

Legacy is, in the most simplest of terms, a leadership retreat for students new to Agnes Scott College. Throughout the weekend you will develop a better understanding of yourself, your peers, and the Agnes Scott Community.

Why is it called Legacy?

Isaac Newton once said that “If I have seen further than others, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” The leadership of the founders, students, alumnae, faculty, staff, and friends of the college has made Agnes Scott the institution that it is today. They have left their legacy, and while you are here, you will be creating yours. This is the first step in figuring out what you want to do during your time at Agnes Scott.

Why is Legacy before classes begin?

Legacy serves as your introduction to the Leadership components of the SUMMIT curriculum, just as orientation serves as your introduction to Agnes Scott in general. By placing Legacy so early, you will have a chance to build deeper relationships with your peers before classes begin and receive foundational experiences for understanding what Leadership means at Agnes Scott.

I can’t attend all of Legacy. What do I do?

Legacy is a graduation requirement and must be completed in full as part of your Agnes Scott experience. If you have an extenuating circumstance that you believe prohibits your full participation, please contact your Summit Advisor.

What should I expect at Legacy?

Don’t expect to be bored - Legacy is an active, engaging, retreat where you will be working hard and having fun at the same time. There is a lot in the schedule, but overall you will be actively participating in various sessions throughout the weekend as part of a small group.
