Major Student Learning Objectives - Students graduating with a Women’s Studies major from Agnes Scott College will be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of basic feminist ideas/analyses, which necessarily includes analysis of not only gender, but race/ethnicity, class, sexuality, nationality, and ability;
  • demonstrate understanding of the multi-racial, multi-ethnic and global nature of feminism;
  • demonstrate understanding of the relationship between feminist practice and feminist theory;
  • demonstrate understanding of the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary nature of WS;
  • demonstrate advanced knowledge in Women’s Studies.

I. Core Courses (4)

                        A.  Introduction to Women’s Studies (WS 100)

                        B. Intersectional Research Methods (WS 200)

                        C.  Internship ( WS 390, RS 370, or WS 450)

                        D.  Contemporary Feminist Theory (WS 340/PHI 315)

II.  Elective Courses (6)

A.  Topical:  3 courses that share a common theme (at least one of which must be a WS course that serves to link the non-WS courses to WS), plus 3 WS courses of the student’s choosing.  At least 3 of the 6 must be at the 300-level or higher.  (Must be approved by the WS Advisory Group.)

OR

B.   Divisional:  6 WS courses, at least 2 from the SS/NS list and 2 from the HU/Arts list below.  At least 3 of the 6 must be at the 300-level or higher.

III.  Global Diversity (0-1)

                        One course with a non-U.S. focus.  Designated with an * below, plus additional topics courses as appropriate.
