Renovating the College's "Front Door"

Recent exterior renovations on Rebekah Scott Hall stabilized the exterior and saved the college money.

Rebekah Scott Hall cupolaLast summer, Agnes Scott began the exterior renovations on Rebekah Scott Hall, renovating the cupola and woodwork, repairing the repointing bricks and installing new downspouts. This work stabilized the exterior, saved the college money and prevented further deterioration of this historic structure.

While the college is thrilled to report that the $1.5 million Hawkes-Holder challenge was satisfied a year early, and that The William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust issued a $1 million challenge that has also been met, the balance of the funds for the renovation still needs to be raised. Estimated overall costs for the Rebekah Scott Hall project total $16.5 million.

When the renovations are complete, Rebekah will become the "front door" to the college, welcoming potential students and their families. The first floor will feature a lobby and gallery area to showcase SUMMIT--which focuses on global learning and women's leadership development--along with offices for admissions, enrollment and financial aid, while the second and third floors will consist of updated residential areas. Reflecting the college's commitment to sustainability, the project is designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.

All elements of the Rebekah renovation are integral pieces of the college's goal to grow enrollment to 1,100 students by the year 2020.
