Agnes Scott College’s Mary Lou Cornwall Hawkes ’65 and James B. Hawkes Physician Assistant Program invites applications for 2 full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month non-tenure-track faculty positions with initial appointment to begin in August of 2026 at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, commensurate with experience. The Cornwall Hawkes PA Program seeks dedicated educators with a passion for servant leadership who align with the mission to cultivate compassionate Physician Assistants (PAs) who think critically, practice evidence-based medicine, serve local communities, and assume leadership roles that help promote patient-centered healthcare.
Agnes Scott College has applied for Accreditation-Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Agnes Scott College’s Mary Lou Cornwall Hawkes ’65 and James B. Hawkes Physician Assistant Program anticipates matriculating its first class in October, 2026, pending achieving Accreditation-Provisional status at the July 2026 ARC-PA meeting. Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appears to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of its first class (cohort) of students.
These are multi-faceted positions that will include the following responsibilities:
- Actively participate in the process of developing, reviewing and revising the mission statement, goals, learning outcomes, and competencies of the program
- Actively participate in the processes of designing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating the curriculum
- Actively contribute to the ongoing self-study process and evaluation of the PA program
- Actively participate in the evaluation of student performance and monitoring student academic progress
- Serve as a faculty advisor for PA students, meeting regularly with students, providing counseling and mentoring, and assuring appropriate intervention, when required
- Actively participate in the process of selecting applicants for admission to the Program
- Provide high quality, learner-centered course Instruction during the didactic phase
- Serve as Course Director for assigned courses during the didactic phase
- Serve as a small group facilitator for case-based learning during the didactic year,
- modeling clinical reasoning and problem-solving
- Prepare exams by collaborating with faculty in test construction and item analysis
- Provide learner-centered remedial instruction as necessary to support student success
- Analyze assigned didactic curriculum and outcomes for review at committee meetings
- Proctor practicum and Objective Structured Clinical Exams (OSCEs)
- Assist the Director of Clinical Education with the development of sites for supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) and completion of initial and ongoing site visits of students and preceptors during the clinical phase
- Serve as faculty leader for service-learning or community outreach events
- Engage in faculty development at the program and college level
- Engage in scholarly activities that support the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) with goal of delivering a local, regional and/or national presentation
- Represent the PA program and college at local, regional, state, and national conferences
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional lifelong learning
- Exemplify the professional PA role for the students and colleagues
- Maintain NCCPA certification and meeting CME requirements
- Faculty have the opportunity to participate in clinic day release time one day per week
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Program Director
Required Qualifications:
Successful candidates will be licensed or license-eligible as a physician assistant in the State of Georgia, maintain current NCCPA certification, and have a master's degree or higher in physician assistant studies or related fields, or currently be a licensed and board-certified MD or DO (If current license is out-of-state then must be eligible to obtain a GA license.) Candidates must also have a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice experience. Stronger candidates will have experience in PA education teaching experience.
