New master's students attended graduate orientation on August 27.

Beaming sun rays and glistening dew-covered grass set the scene to welcome Agnes Scott's 2024 clinical mental health counseling cohort at the fall orientation on August 27th. One by one, students strolled into the Rebekah Scott Hall Welcome Center with warm smiles, eager to meet their professors and classmates.

Newly enrolled clinical mental health counseling students filled our daytime and evening cohorts this school year. Three new faculty members also joined the program: Associate Professor Jung (June) H. Hyun, Ph.D., LMHC (WA), NCC (she/her), Assistant Professor Janelle L. Jones, Ph.D., NCC (she/her) and Assistant Professor, Daun Kwag, Ph.D., NCC (she/her).

Program Director Dr. Jennifer Fulling-Smith says, “We are thrilled to welcome the new cohort. They bring diverse identities and lived experiences that will enrich our classrooms. They have varied work and educational experiences, many of whom are leaving impressive careers and having completed degrees from incredible colleges and universities to be part of improving access to mental health and wellness. We are eager to learn from you, with you, and get to know you as a whole person on your journey to becoming a counselor.”

In conjunction with the Graduate Studies mission statement, the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program educates students, more specifically future counselors, to think critically about barriers to achieving mental health, creatively engage with clients to achieve their goals in counseling, and courageously make a meaningful impact as a counselor with clients, in their communities, and on systems. The clinical mental health counseling program is dedicated to providing education that assists counselors in successfully applying for licensure.

If you’re interested in pursuing a career as a licensed professional counselor, attend our Graduate Studies Fall Open House on Saturday, November 4, 2024, to learn more about our Clinical Mental Health Counseling program.
