The Agnes Scott College Public Health Program invites applications for a fulltime, tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor to begin in Fall 2013. Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent in public health or they must have a Ph.D. in another discipline with a specialization in public health along with an M.P.H. or equivalent. The position involves a 3/2 teaching load. The successful applicant will play a key role in the public health program, including teaching core courses for the major, advising and mentoring students, and the potential for future leadership of the program. The ideal candidate should be able to teach at least two of the three core courses: Survey of Public Health, Epidemiology, and Global Health. Additionally, the candidate should be ab le to teach courses in at least one of the following areas: disease surveillance and intervention, health behaviors, health disparities, health policy, research methods, environmental health, health economics, health communications, and community health. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to design courses in his or her specialty, some of which may be cross-listed with other departments. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach college-level courses; a record of either published research or strong evidence of the potential to publish; and a willingness to mentor undergraduate students. Preference will be given to candidates with a successful record of externally funded research. The ability to teach a socially and economically diverse student population is a standard at Agnes Scott College.
The Public Health Program is a vibrant, interdisciplinary undergraduate program with courses cross-listed with a range of departments such as biology, anthropology, chemistry, mathematics, and women's studies. In terms of majors and minors, public health is one of the fastest growing programs at Agnes Scott College, which is located in metropolitan Atlanta, often referred to as the "Public Health Capital of the World."
