Independent Study Abroad

Agnes Scott offers a variety of opportunities for students to participate in longer-term study abroad programs for summer, semester and year-long experiences. The Center for Global Learning offers information sessions and individual advising to find program options that meet your specific goals. All programs require a mandatory pre-departure orientation on campus that gives important information on academics, finances, safety, culture shock, and many other topics. We also offer critical re-entry programming for students who are returning from their life-changing experiences.

Below is a list of our current program types and program providers. Deadlines for applying to these various programs can be found on our Deadlines webpage. To find out more about ASC Global Study Tours, visit the Global Study Tours webpage.

Summer programs

Summer programs vary widely in the number of credits students receive, locations, length of program, housing options, languages to study, experiential learning components, internship components, and more. Students may participate in programs from program providers or from other universities. Programs may last from 1- 12 weeks, and students typically receive anywhere from 1-9 credits. The Center for Global Learning reviews and approves all credit-bearing study abroad programs; volunteer, internship and work program resources are also available with many of these program providers. Below are a list of ASC and other recommended programs.

When researching and comparing Summer programs, consider the following:

  • Cost vs Length – If two similar programs cost the same amount, but one of them lasts a week longer, which one is the better deal?
  • Housing – Will you stay in a dormitory, hotel, apartment, or home-stay family? Is this important to you?
  • Extras – What is (and is not) included in the program fee? Consider expenses like insurance, meals, excursions, airport pick-up, transportation, etc.
