Tree CampusThe Arbor Day Foundation has named Agnes Scott College as a 2015 Tree Campus USA for the college’s commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the fourth consecutive year the college has received recognition.

Tree Campus USA is a national program created in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals.

"For Agnes Scott College, the designation as a Tree Campus USA has provided the impetus for the college to develop new events and activities to highlight the significance of the tree canopy here. The designation has also helped guide us into the next phase of canopy documentation and maintenance. We are very proud to be among the college and universities with a Tree Campus USA designation," said Susan Kidd, executive director of the Center for Sustainability.

Agnes Scott College achieved the title by meeting Tree Campus USA’s five standards, which include maintaining a tree advisory committee, a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance and a student service-learning project. Currently there are 254 campuses across the United States with this recognition.

The Arbor Day Foundation has helped campuses throughout the country plant thousands of trees, and Tree Campus USA colleges and universities invested more than $36.8 million in campus forest management last year. More information about the program is available at
