The Residence Life staff (Residence Directors, Resident Assistants and Residence Life Coordinators) is selected for the upcoming academic year through an application and interview process held each spring semester. All Residence Life student staff are hired, trained, supervised and evaluated by the Director of Residence Life and the Associate Dean of Students.
The Residence Life Coordinators (RLC) are professional live-in staff who may work full-time on or off campus but who have significant evening and weekend responsibilities in the residence halls. The RLC is primarily responsible for assisting in the programming goals and general operations of the residential campus at Agnes Scott College as prescribed by the Office of Residence Life. Generally, the RLCs have already received or are working to complete a Master's degree in counseling or another related field.
The Resident Directors (RD) serve as the live-in student staff primarily responsible for overalll operations of the residence halls and Avery Glen apartments. Each RD supervises a staff of (2-6) Resident Assistants, processes and reports work order requests, coordinates programming within the hall and serves on a pager rotation throughout the academic year. An RD must hold a Junior or Senior standing and a minimum GPA of 2.5.
The Resident Assistants (RA) are the upper-class student staff who live on each floor within the residence halls, theme houses or Avery Glen apartments who aid in the day-to-day interactions among residential students. Each RA is required to make rounds within her building/house/complex when serving as the RA "on-call" for her building and/or area, provide programming opportunities for her floor's residents and mediate roommate conflicts as needed.
Emergency Support Staff
Whom can I contact after hours if I have an emergency?
There are two first-year residence halls. Each first-year residence hall is staffed with a Residence Life Coordinator, Residence Director and (2) Resident Assistants per floor (in most cases). Both serve the college in two capacities. During office hours they serve as office support for the Office of Residence Life. After office hours, they serve on the Dean of Student's emergency "on call" rotation along with the Director of Residence Life and the Associate Dean of Students. This staff is trained in crisis intervention, safety, medical emergency protocol and mediation. The pager is carried 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This staff works closely with the Office of Public Safety and the Office of Facilities during emergencies. The Dean of Student's emergency phone number is made available to students during orientation.
