Dean of Students

Greetings from the Office of the Dean of Students!

We are educators fostering a holistic developmental experience for students, empowering them to make meaningful contributions in the world. We educate for life. —Dean of Students Mission Statement

Congratulations for deciding to embark upon a journey that will open your minds to ideas, perspectives and possibilities in ways that can only happen in an environment such as Agnes Scott. There is distinctiveness about Agnes Scott, a sense of place and purpose that is not found on any other campus.

The Division of Student Life is deeply committed to the educational mission of Agnes Scott. We provide diverse programs and services that are designed to enrich your college experience. The division comprises residence life, intercultural affairs, athletics, health services, personal counseling, career planning, student activities, religious life, and student leadership and engagement. I invite you to visit each office’s Web page to learn more about the programs, resources and services available to you.

It is our belief that your involvement in student life is an essential part of your college experience, an integral part of the start of a lifelong journey of exploration, seeking knowledge and transformation. At Agnes Scott, the opportunities abound. Seize the opportunities afforded to you. Delve into experiences that will enhance your self-awareness, where you will discover who you are and what your passions are. Immerse yourself in opportunities that will expand your awareness and understanding of others around you, opportunities that will lead you to discover your place in this global world, your capacity to effect change, your capacity to assume active roles in your communities, your capacity to make this world a better place.

Be active outside the classroom. Participation will nourish your personal interests, embellish your vision for the future and help you to better understand both yourself and others. Take the time to dabble in all those things you may be curious about—try out for an intramurals team, get involved in a community service project, join a student organization, start a student organization, study abroad for a semester, do an internship in Atlanta. These opportunities are linked intentionally to our mission to prepare you for a life of engaged citizenship in our world, and they are placed within your reach. Seize them! In the eloquent words of Lao Tzu, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Agnes Scott is your ocean. Cast your nets out wide … we will teach you how.

Student Life educators are here to guide you on this journey, yet at the same time, we are also on this journey with you. As you will learn from us, we will learn from you. As we may inspire you, you will inspire us. We look forward to embarking on the journey with you!
