Junior & Senior Year - Leadership Immersion Experiences

After undergoing Global Journeys in their first-year and SCALE in their second year, upper-class students participate in Peak Week by demonstrating the leadership skills they have gained in their first two years. Junior and senior students have the option of participating in a week-long service experience or serve as Schmidt Global Student Leaders or SCALE Scholars.

Impact Service Experience

Impact Service Experience (ISE) is a program that takes teams of students to a service site and promotes community building and engagement beyond our local Decatur community. ISE is a fun and meaningful way for students to spend their breaks and long weekends. In addition to working on a service project, each team takes part in education, social justice, and teambuilding training sessions prior to departure.

Schmidt Global Student Leaders

Named in honor of former Agnes Scott President Ruth Schmidt ('82-'94), Schmidt Global Student Leaders are juniors and seniors selected to assist a Journeys faculty member in facilitating the course meetings for their section of Journeys and accompanying the class on the immersion experience in March (one SGSL per section). Additionally, Schmidt Global Student Leaders take an accompanying two-credit internship course, SUM370.

Placement as a SGSL is awarded on a competitive basis and includes the cost of all travel expenses (not including spending money and passport) and course materials for the Journeys course.

SCALE Leaders

SCALE Leaders are juniors and seniors selected to play a critical role in facilitating this high-impact experience for students. SCALE Leaders will assist SCALE faculty members in facilitating course meetings for their section of SCALE and will accompany the student teams to the SCALE sites in March, handling on-site logistics and leading reflection. SCALE Leaders will be enrolled in the 1-credit course, and the experience will fulfill the practicum requirement for the leadership specialization.
