Humanities Faculty Fund

 

About:

The Humanities Faculty Fund was established in 1980 with gifts from alumnae and friends and with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The income is used for professional development of the faculty in humanities.

Applications Due:

1 February (annually) at 5:00 p.m. Atlanta time

When the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday, the due date is the first business day after the 1st.

Amount:

Grants typically range from $300 to $5,000.

Project period:

For summer projects, from date of award through 31 August (of the same calendar year)

For academic year projects, from date of award through 30 June (of the next calendar year)

Who is Eligible:

Faculty members proposing projects in or related to humanities fields. 

The National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act of 1965 defines humanities this way: 

"The term 'humanities' includes, but is not limited to, the study of the following: language, both modern and classical; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; those aspects of social sciences which have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods; and the study and application of the humanities to the human environment with particular attention to reflecting our diverse heritage, traditions, and history and to the relevance of the humanities to the current conditions of national life."

Travel, supplies, books, departmental equipment, software, etc.

Who reviews proposals:

Agnes Scott College’s Professional Development Committee (PDC)

Who awards funds:

VPAA/DOC upon recommendation from the PDC

Final report due:

30 September (by email to OSP@agnesscott.edu)
