Chaplain Whitney Booth Lockard

Rev. Whitney Booth Lockard joined the Agnes Scott community as the Chaplain and Director of Religious & Spiritual Life in July 2019. Whitney was born in Decatur but lived here only a few years before moving to Apple Valley, Georgia where she grew up and attended Jefferson High School. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee to attend Vanderbilt University, where she earned a degree in English and Spanish. After college, Whitney spent a year in Seattle, WA participating in the Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program through the Presbyterian Church (USA), where she lived in intentional community, served alongside various programs of a local church, and slung lattes at one of Seattle’s many Starbucks stores. She moved back to Nashville and enrolled in the Master of Divinity program at Vanderbilt Divinity School, which she completed in 2012. Whitney spent some time exploring unique areas of ministry work, including a job in publishing with The Upper Room as well as a position in hospital chaplaincy. She served as a youth director at Westminster Presbyterian Church (Nashville, TN)-- a job that started as a part-time, temporary role and morphed into seven wonderful years! Whitney celebrated her ordination with her Westminster family before moving to Decatur to begin this new job at Agnes Scott in July 2019.

Whitney is a big fan of Thai food, the Atlanta Braves, and sitting on porches. She and her husband Mark love to travel and explore, but always enjoy a lazy day at home with their dog, Palmer. If you want to talk about sandwiches, college basketball, or your current Netflix/Disney+ obsession - she’s here for all of it.

Whitney is deeply grateful for the support of her communities and all the experiences and opportunities that have led her to Agnes Scott College. She is excited to be your Chaplain and to offer support to this community in whatever way she can. If you’re wanting to connect with a religious community (on- or off-campus), engage in conversations where it’s safe to ask some big questions of faith, or just looking for someone who’ll listen, Chaplain Whitney is happy to help.

Chaplain Whitney’s office is in Alston 225. You are welcome to stop by anytime during business hours or email her to set up an appointment (wboothlockard@agnesscott.edu).
