Diversity of Candidates a Priority

Dear Members of the Agnes Scott Community,

With the presidential search well underway, we write to give you an update. The Presidential Search Committee has met several times now, planning the search and discussing ways we can ensure a diverse slate of outstanding candidates.

During last week's search committee meeting, we, along with our Witt/Kieffer search consultants, participated in an interesting and worthwhile workshop on Mitigating Unconscious Bias in the search process, facilitated by attorney Pearl Alexander, executive director, Diversity, Inclusion, & Engagement at the Georgia Institute of Technology. We believe this session will be most useful as we move through the search process.

Also last week, two of our search consultants joined us on campus for additional listening sessions. These sessions were inspiring, gratifying and invigorating, and we are indebted to those of you who attended and so generously shared your thoughts. Thank you.

Over the course of the coming weeks, recruitment will focus on outreach to a broad range of individuals who are in a position to know of strong candidates for us. We hope you will join us in thinking of nominations. Please direct them to our search consultants Robin Mamlet, Sheila Murphy and Veena Abraham at

Thank you for your interest in our presidential search. We look forward to sharing more as we progress in the search.

With best wishes,

Deb Harris Painter ’75 Elizabeth H. Noe ’86
