Agnes Scott College Announces Inaugural Vice President for Equity and Inclusion

Decatur, GA, June 18, 2019—Agnes Scott College selects Yves-Rose Porcena as the college’s first Vice President for Equity and Inclusion. Dr. Porcena comes to Agnes Scott after a successful tenure as chief diversity officer at the University of West Georgia.  She brings a wealth of leadership experience in higher education and global diversity. dr.-yves-rose-porcena-1-2.jpg

During her time at West Georgia, Dr. Porcena: 

  • Worked with all sectors of the campus community to integrate diversity and inclusion into all processes.
  • Raised foundation funds to implement campus and community-wide anti-bias training.
  • Sought funding and created a position to support the campus LGBTQI+ communities.
  • Launched a collaborative interfaith campaign to address issues of religious intolerance on campus.

She has served as the director of Georgia State University’s three satellite centers and as special assistant to the president of Georgia College and State University overseeing institutional diversity, equity and compensation programs. Earlier, she served as director of equal opportunity at Tufts University; executive director of Transition House and the Women’s Educational Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts; executive director of the City of Somerville Human Rights Commission; and human rights fellow at Amnesty International.

Dr. Porcena holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University, a Master of Arts in law and diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Emmanuel College. A native of Haiti, Dr. Porcena has led many international service trips abroad.

The Vice President for Equity and Inclusion will plan, execute and implement a strategic vision to build and maintain an inclusive and equitable college community. Reporting to the president and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion will contribute to strategic institutional discussions and decisions. In partnership with the president and the campus community, the Vice President for Equity and Inclusion will work to advance the college as a learning environment and workplace that is affirming for all. Dr. Porcena breadth of experience, empathy for all individuals and collaborative work style will enhance the Agnes Scott community’s existing equity and inclusion efforts.

Dr. Porcena will begin at Agnes Scott on July 15, 2019.
