Circulation / Borrowing Policy

*During the Pandemic, Agnes Scott users should Place Holds and wait to be notified of the availability of requested items. Guest borrowers not affiliated with Agnes Scott should contact the library for borrowing information.

Visit the Circulation Desk (Floor 1) to borrow materials, including reserves, interlibrary loans and items from the library's circulating collections.

An Agnes Scott College ID is required to check out library materials. Alumnae may apply for a Guest Borrower's Card at the Circulation Desk. ARCHE borrowers must present a valid ILU card from the library of the college/university in which they are enrolled, as well as picture ID, to obtain short-term borrowing privileges.

Book Return
There is a book drop on the first floor at the Circulation Desk, and books may be returned to the book drop outside the main entrance.

If the item you want is checked out, a hold can be placed on it at the Circulation Desk. You will be notified when the item is returned. If the material has been checked out for more than three weeks, it can be recalled for you.

Only Agnes Scott College students, faculty, and staff may place holds on library materials.

Guest Borrowers
Students and faculty who attend any of the ARCHE (Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education) colleges and universities may have borrowing privileges at any of the ARCHE libraries providing they have a specific information need, have used the home library to its full potential, and are in good standing at their home library. These are known as ILU Borrowers. See the Use Atlanta Libraries (Interlibrary Use/ILU) page for more information.

Alumnae of Agnes Scott College may have McCain Library borrowing privileges. See Alumnae Borrowing Privileges.

Spouses and children of ASC faculty/staff may have McCain Library borrowing privileges.

Generally, people who have no connection to Agnes Scott College or the ARCHE consortium are not granted borrowing privileges, although occasionally exceptions are made.

Guest borrowers may not check out media equipment or DVDs and cannot submit interlibrary loan (ILL) requests.

McCain Library protects the confidentiality of all borrower information as required by law. Staff may not disclose the name of a patron who has a book checked out. In case of urgent need, however, we will attempt to contact the patron and facilitate sharing of the material.

If you have additional questions or need more information about the library, please call (404-471-6094) or come by the Circulation Desk.
