A Message from Director of Agnes Scott Athletics Markesha Henderson

Dear friend of Scottie Athletics,

Good news! The Agnes Scott Athletics Golf Classic on April 13 is sold out of golf registrations. This is particularly exciting because last year’s event was canceled (this year’s experience will be modified to follow COVID protocols). We are particularly grateful for the enthusiasm of our friends’ investment in our student-athletes through this annual fundraiser. In addition to those who purchased golf registrations, we are deeply appreciative of the generosity of the following sponsors and donors:

  • Brannen Development Company
  • Truist Bank
  • Sasaki Architects
  • Kordell Stewart
  • Javarro Edwards
  • One Digital
  • Johnson Controls Security

As many professional and well-resourced athletic programs return to play around the world, the proceeds from the Golf Classic directly benefit our unique student-athletes and ensure women’s sports can continue to thrive post-pandemic. Our fundraising efforts support the athletic, academic, and leadership activities of Scotties who desire to continue playing competitive sports while preparing to make an impact on the college, their communities, and the world. Improved facilities, expanded travel opportunities, and advancement in sports medicine technology not only enhances the student-athlete experience, but attracts future Scotties to make Agnes Scott their first choice to learn and play.

Although all golf registrations for this year have been secured, there are still opportunities to support Scottie Athletics. With support from the Office of Development, I’m pleased to announce the launch of a restructured sponsorship and partnership program that begins with the annual Golf Classic and extends through the following athletic season. The purpose is to make a broader push for continued support beyond the Golf Classic. The new sponsorship and partnership opportunities provide supporters with increased access and visibility in our sports venues as well as on our new live stream online platform to highlight the businesses and individuals who make student-athlete success possible.

Finally, my vision for the future of Scottie Athletics centers on our women using the tools learned from athletic participation to position themselves for future success as local, regional, and global leaders of tomorrow. I am profoundly committed to delivering a robust, comprehensive, and empowering experience that prepares our student-athletes to lead everywhere. Thank you to all those who made the return of the Golf Classic possible. Support to The Fund for Agnes Scott is Critical
As the college continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, your support to The Fund for Agnes Scott is needed more than everYour gift will have an immediate impact by helping us respond to the financial needs of students and the college. Only 20% percent of alums have made a gift to Agnes Scott this fiscal year. We need your help to increase this number to 32% by June 30. Did you know that the percentage of alums who give back to their alma mater is a key factor in U.S. News and World Report college rankings? Make your gift today and bolster Agnes Scott’s college rankings! Make your gift here.

It’s a Win-win: Make a Gift That Pays You Income
With an investment of $10,000 or more in cash or stock, Agnes Scott can help you establish a charitable gift annuity that will pay you or a loved one an annual income for life. The remainder of the investment, when you no longer need it, goes to Agnes Scott.

If you are age 60 or older, you can establish a charitable gift annuity that begins paying you quarterly income within 3 months of your initial investment.

If you are a younger donor, a deferred gift annuity can help you plan for your retirement. By investing now and deferring the start of income payments until you reach retirement age, your initial investment has more time to grow.

In either case, the donor receives a tax deduction for part of the initial investment, plus a guaranteed revenue stream that is partially tax-free. Agnes Scott receives the remainder.

Other types of life-income gifts may be beneficial to you with an initial investment of $100,000 or more. For these options, please consult a qualified financial advisor.

Each charitable gift annuity is unique to the circumstances of the donor. To learn more, discuss your options or receive a customized annuity illustration, please contact Lee Davis, senior associate director of leadership and legacy giving, at 404.471.5448 or ldavis@agnesscott.edu.
