Our Future, Our Main

The Campaign for Main Reaches Halfway Mark

Our goal: $31.8 million for the restoration of Agnes Scott "Main" Hall.

The importance and urgency of completing the much-needed restoration of Main Hall is not simply about reaching a fundraising goal. It is about returning students to the building's three residential floors instead of living off-campus. Research has proven that on-campus students are timelier in their graduation and more often go on to graduate school and earn advanced degrees. Additionally, living on campus allows students to benefit from living-learning communities, increase interaction with faculty, take advantage of campus resources, and generally enrich the learning experience beyond the classroom setting.

Ultimately, the Campaign for Main ensures that Scotties of today and tomorrow will benefit from the same renowned residential experience that Agnes Scott has been known for since 1891.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, fundraising for the Campaign for Main has officially passed the halfway mark! Nearly 370 donors have raised $18 million toward the $31.8 million dollar goal to fully restore Main Hall. The gifts have fully funded Phase I and Phase II restoration work which includes foundation stabilization and waterproofing, a new slate roof along with copper gutters, exterior bricks and masonry repair, windows replacement, and more.

Now we need the support of others to raise the remaining $13.8 million to fund Phase III restoration work that will ensure all students can live — and thrive — on campus. We recognize the challenge of raising the remaining 43% for the Campaign for Main, especially in the face of the coronavirus pandemic; however, it is a challenge that we embrace fully.

"If Main went, a lot of memories would leave. It's a place where people made lifelong friendships, made memories that shaped their lives. For over a hundred years, it has been the center of all Agnes Scott alums' lives at one point. It needs to be here, for tradition's sake."  - Susan Thomas '66
