Power Couples Roundtable: A Summit LeaderStory

The power couples panel brings together three distinguished couples from varying backgrounds. Each couple has built a meaningful partnership and an extraordinary life of commitment and collaboration. Taken individually, each panelist is an industry leader. The panelists will share their journeys and lessons learned in pursuing challenging work while maintaining enriching relationships. Following the panel, students will have the opportunity to discuss how they too might build successful careers while simultaneously cultivating lasting partnerships.

Participants include: Liz and Frank Blake; Vicki and John Palmer; Kathy Scott '85 and Melanie Sherk '87.

Liz retired in December 2014 after serving nearly nine years as senior vice president – advocacy, government affairs & general counsel for Habitat for Humanity International.  Prior to Habitat, Liz worked in the corporate world and in private law practice for 28 years.

Frank served as chairman and CEO of The Home Depot from January 2007 through November 2014, and then as chairman through January 2015. Frank joined The Home Depot in 2002 as executive vice president, business development and corporate operations.

John and Vicki R. Palmer

John is president & chief executive officer of EDP Enterprises, Inc., a full food service management company that he founded 30 years ago in Kansas City, Mo. The company employs approximately 800 people and serves more than 75,000 meals per day to military troops at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Vicki is a retired executive vice president of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. Ms. Palmer’s career in the Coca-Cola system spanned more than 25 years. At the time of her retirement, she was responsible for overseeing the Treasury Department, which managed the company’s $10B multicurrency debt portfolio and its $4B pension plan and 401(k) plan investments, Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Management. Ms. Palmer also served as a member of the company’s Executive Leadership Team and liaison to the Board of Directors.

Kathy Scott '85 & Melanie Sherk '87

Kathy began her work life at the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, where she applied her Agnes Scott economics degree to foreign exchange and settlement positions in New York, London and Toronto.  She's currently a senior consultant at FocusKPI, managing marketing and analytics programs for the Hewlett Packard Software business.

Melanie is the chief legal officer and vice president, business development at Zazzle Inc.  She has been at the company for nine and a half years and is responsible for overseeing all legal matters, including commercial contracts, intellectual property, employment law and privacy.
