OASC Community Orchestra Concert
Sunday, Nov. 23, 3 p.m.
Gaines Chapel, Presser Hall

Under the baton of Qiao Solomon, the ASC Community Orchestra presents "An Afternoon with Masters Old and New," this Sunday at 3 pm in Presser Hall, Gaines Chapel. This concert features master works from the 19th century by Liszt, Borodin and Holst and phenomenal compositions by two contemporary composers, Arturo Márquez and Grammy-winning composer Augusta Read Thomas.

Thomas is visiting ASC March 11-13, 2015 as the Kirk Composer-in residence and Phi Beta Kapa scholar. She is professor of composition at the University of Chicago, and was a Mead composer-in-residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra during 1997-2006. In 2007 she was one of the two finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for music. This Sunday, the ASCCO will perform one of her works, "Prayer and Celebration," for chamber string and winds.
