The Elizabeth Kiss Trailblazer Scholarship

Pioneer, innovator, trendsetter - all are words that embody the essence of a true leader, a trailblazer, and the kind of students we seek to live, learn and grow as future Scotties at Agnes Scott College. The Elizabeth Kiss Trailblazer Scholarship, named in honor of Agnes Scott’s eighth president Dr. Elizabeth Kiss (pronounced “quiche”), is our promise to the young women of today who exemplify the qualities inherent in tomorrow’s leaders.

For more than 125 years, Agnes Scott has been dedicated to providing a transformative educational experience to women at an affordable cost, which is why we have long been recognized as a Best Value College. The Trailblazer Scholarship is a continuation of our commitment to this cause.

With Agnes Scott College’s Elizabeth Kiss Trailblazer Scholarship, admitted students to the college who meet certain qualifications are eligible for a $25,000 merit-based scholarship, renewable for up to four years of their undergraduate education.

To qualify, applicants need only apply to Agnes Scott College and have the following at the time of applying:

    • At least a 3.75 GPA (as reported by their high school)
All application materials should be submitted by Jan. 15, the Early Action II deadline March 15, the Regular Decision deadline (deadline extended). Applicants who qualify for the Trailblazer Scholarship will be notified at the time of admission.

The Trailblazer Scholarship is named for Elizabeth Kiss, Agnes Scott’s president eighth, whose 12-year leadership exemplified the qualities we seek in future Scotties – those who think deeply, live honorably, and engage in the intellectual and social challenges of our times.

Among her many achievements, Kiss most notably spearheaded the development of SUMMIT, which has reinvented a liberal arts education by preparing every Agnes Scott student to be an effective change agent in a global society. In its fifth year, SUMMIT continues to garner national attention for Agnes Scott, by being named the No. 1 Most Innovative Liberal Arts College in the Country  by U.S. News & World Report’s “2019, 2020 and 2021 Best Colleges” rankings, No. 1 in the nation for First-Year Experiences for 2020 and 2021, a Top 2 liberal arts college for  "A Strong Commitment to Undergraduate Teaching" and by receiving the 2017 ACE/Fidelity Investments Award for Institutional Transformation.

Eligible Applicants
Traditional undergraduate applicants are eligible for the scholarship. Homeschool students can qualify for the 2021-2022 enrollment year based on GPA, while international and transfer students can qualify based on the strength of their complete application. Note: The Elizabeth Kiss Trailblazer Scholarship is available only to admitted students entering Agnes Scott College from the Fall 2018 onward.

Applicants need only apply for admission to Agnes Scott College by January 15 March 15 via the Common Application, meeting all general requirements for admission. Applicants must be admitted to the college before any official award announcement.

Admitted students who have a 3.75 GPA (as reported by their high school), OR a 1250 SAT or 26 ACT, will receive the Trailblazer Scholarship. No separate application for the Trailblazer Scholarship is necessary. Notice: Due to COVID-19 implications, the Office of Admission has removed the qualifying test score option from the Trailblazer qualifications for the 2021 enrollment year.

To retain the Trailblazer Scholarship once granted, recipients must maintain a 2.5 GPA for the entire four years of eligibility.

Note: Applicants who do not qualify for the Trailblazer Scholarship will likely qualify for other merit-based scholarships from Agnes Scott. Applicants who DO qualify for the Trailblazer Scholarship are also still eligible to receive other select institutional scholarships available from the college.

Applicants should submit the Common Application to Agnes Scott by Jan. 15 March 15, the college’s Early Action II deadline Regular Decision deadline, for the best opportunity to qualify for merit-based scholarships. Applicants who qualify for the Trailblazer Scholarship will receive notification at the time of their admission. NOTE: A student is only eligible to receive the Trailblazer Scholarship at the time she first submits her application. For example, if the student applies early to the college but does not meet the minimum requirements for Trailblazer at the time of her submission, she will not then qualify for the scholarship later if she improves/increases her test scores or GPA to or above the minimum requirements for the scholarship.
