Presidential Scholarship Interviews

Congratulations on being admitted to Agnes Scott College! With this acceptance, you are well on your way to becoming a part of a community of leaders and global change agents. In celebration of your hard work and dedication during high school, you have been invited to compete for one of our Marvin B. Perry Presidential Scholarships, a prestigious scholarship which awards full tuition, room and board for up to four years of study (currently a $245,000 value).

In order to be considered for the scholarship, you must EITHER complete a virtual interview or submit a video on the topics below AND attend our Virtual Admitted Scottie Day on February 19, 2023.

Your Next Steps to Qualify for the Presidential Scholarship:

Step One: Register for Virtual Admitted Scottie Day (February 19, 2023)

During our Virtual Admitted Scottie Day, you will have the opportunity to connect with other incoming first-year Scotties, learn what to expect during your first year, ask your most pressing questions and learn about your next steps for enrollment. By attending this event, you will automatically receive a $1,000 Scottie Scholar Grant, renewable for up to four years of study at Agnes Scott.

To register for the event, you will need your Agnes Scott Application Portal login information. These are the credentials you used to check the status of your application. If you have misplaced this information, please reach out to the Office of Admission by calling 404.471.6285. Note that the deadline to register is February 15.

We know you like planning ahead, and so do we! Here is a general idea of what to expect for the Virtual Admitted Scottie Day:

Step Two: Prepare for your Presidential Scholarship Project

To be considered for the Marvin B. Perry Presidential Scholarship, you must attend the Virtual Admitted Scottie Day AND participate in one of the following project options answering one of the prompts (see below).

We understand that students best represent themselves in different ways; therefore, both of the following project options are given equal weight in consideration for the Presidential Scholarship. Neither project option is given preference when the committee determines Presidential Scholarship recipients. Please think critically about how you best present yourself when choosing your project option.

Project Options (selected on form below by February 1):

(10 minutes with a panel of three campus community members via Zoom) Your interview will begin with four to five minutes for you to address one of the prompts listed below, and the panel of Agnes Scott community members will follow up with questions based on your response. This is designed to be an interactive and engaging discussion. There is no need to memorize, study or have notes on the topics.

(3-5 minutes) A short video addressing your answer to one of the prompts listed below. This could be a video of yourself, an animated piece, or any other creative way you choose to address the topic.

*NOTE: Regardless of your project selection, you must attend the Virtual Admitted Scottie Day to be eligible for the Presidential Scholarship and for the $1,000 Scottie Scholar Grant.

Once you have chosen your project option, but at least by midnight on February 1, 2023, you must fill out the below form to inform us of your selection.

Prompts (Students will select one or the other. You do not need to let us know which prompt you selected beforehand.):

What is the global issue you are most passionate about? How do you see yourself interacting with or tackling this issue while attending Agnes Scott?

What do you consider to be your style of leadership? What do you think are your leadership strengths? What do you want to improve upon while at Agnes Scott?

DEADLINES & SUBMISSION DIRECTIONS

Once you have chosen a project option that best suits you, you’ll need to prepare your actual project. See deadlines and instructions below:

The deadline to let us know your Presidential Scholarship Project Option is midnight on February 1.
The deadline to sign up for a virtual interview time is Thursday, February 9, with interviews occurring February 13-18. You will receive an email with the registration form on February 2.
Video essay will be due by midnight on Thursday, February 9. If you select video essay as your project option, you must upload a link to your video essay in your Agnes Scott Application Portal by February 9. On the Application Portal, you will see a link to “Virtual Presidential Video Submission.” This is where you can upload a link to your video on another site (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).
The deadline to register for the Virtual Admitted Scottie Day is Wednesday, February 15.

NEXT STEPS

Register your selection for your Presidential Scholarship Project by Wednesday, February 1.
You will receive an email to select your interview time, if choosing to interview, on Thursday, February 2. You must select an interview time by Thursday, February 9.
If you have selected a video essay as your Presidential Scholarship project, submit your video by Thursday, February 9.
If you have selected a virtual interview as your Presidential Scholarship project, attend your virtual interview during the time you selected during the week of Monday, February 13 through Saturday, February 18.
Register for the Virtual Admitted Scottie Day by Wednesday, February 15.
