Teaching and Scholarly Interests

Professor Thorsrud's interests include Ancient philosophy, skepticism, moral psychology, and ethics.

Professional Activities

Professor Thorsrud's recent publications include Ancient Scepticism (University of California, and Acumen 2009); "Arcesilaus and Carneades," in The Cambridge Companion to Ancient Scepticism, Richard Bett, ed. (Cambridge University Press, 2010); and "Radical and Mitigated Skepticism in Cicero's Academica," in Cicero's Practical Philosophy, Walter Nicgorski, ed. (Notre Dame University Press, 2012).

Among his other publications, he has contributed essays to Open Court's Popular Culture and Philosophy Series: "Humans smile with so little provocation," [a discussion of Stoic and Aristotelian view of emotion] in Star Trek and Philosophy, J. Eberl and K. Decker, eds. (Open Court 2008); and "Voldemort's Agents, Malfoy's Cronies, and Hagrid's Chums: Friendship in Harry Potter," in Harry Potter and Philosophy, D. Bagget and S.
