Hu Hesheng

Hu Hesheng was born in Shanghai on June 20, 1928. She completed her graduate work in mathematics at Zhejiang University in 1952. From 1952-1956 she was a research assistant and research associate of the Institute of Mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Since 1956 she has been at Fudan University, rising through the ranks as a lecturer, associate professor, and currently as a full professor. Her field of specialty has been differential geometry. She served as the head of the differential geometry group at the Institute of Mathematics at Fudan University for many years.

Hesheng has served as vice president of the Chinese Mathematical Society and as president of the Shanghai Mathematical Society. She was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991. Hesheng was chosen as the Emmy Noether Lecturer for the 2002 International Congress of Mathematicians in Beijing, China.
