Two gifts will help support Agnes Scott's new partnership with The Posse Foundation.

Ten young women from Chicago will attend Agnes Scott this fall thanks to a new partnership with The Posse Foundation Chicago. Additional groups of 10 students will arrive each fall, for a total of 40 Posse Scholars in the fall of 2016 and for each subsequent year.

The college has received almost $1 million so far to support its Posse partnership—$400,000 from the J.B. Fuqua Foundation and $500,000 from The Coca-Cola Foundation. The Posse Foundation has identified, recruited and trained 4,869 public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential to become Posse Scholars. Since 1989, Posse has provided access to a college education for students from disadvantaged urban backgrounds who might not otherwise have had an opportunity to attend and graduate from a premier college or university. Posse Scholars receive four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships from Posse’s partner institutions of higher education. Posse Scholars graduate at a rate of 90 percent and rise to leadership positions on campus and in their professional careers. To achieve these impressive results, Posse students are placed in cohorts of 10 students who receive intensive academic and social preparation as a group in high school and then support and train together at their destination college or university.

Through its partnership with Posse, Agnes Scott is committed to providing at least a full-tuition scholarship to each Posse Scholar. The gift from the Fuqua Foundation will provide startup support for programming, including faculty mentors, special events for Posse Scholars and a weeklong retreat for the scholars and other members of the wider campus community to explore an important issue identified by Posse Scholars.

The Coca-Cola Foundation’s gift will provide scholarships for first-generation college students through the Posse program. A portion of The Coca-Cola Foundation’s gift will also support Agnes Scott’s signature Global Awareness program.
