AWISA (African and West Indian Students Association)
The
African and West Indian Students Association AWISA was formed to make
our College community more aware and more appreciative of the numerous
cultures, peoples and societies found in today's West Indian and
African countries. All members of the Agnes Scott community are
encouraged to join AWISA, meaning that you do not need to be a native
of the Caribbean or Africa, just intrigued about the cultures. ONE
LOVE, from AWISA! Contact Camille Lindsay.
AW (Asian Women)
Founded
in 1996, and taking the name Asian Women in 2002, AW is a collective
voice for students interested in promoting awareness of Asian cultures
and traditions. Also a supportive base for Asian/Asian-American
students, AW represents the voice of the Asian woman in the Agnes Scott
community. AW's activities include after-school tutoring assistance at
the International Women's House, coordination with the office of
admission for Asian/Asian-American student recruitment, participation
at regional Asian cultural activities and recognition of
Asian-American History Month. An emphasis is also placed on meeting
students of different Asian heritages through intercollegiate
activities with various Asian student associations at schools
throughout the southeastern United States. Contact Khara Agana or Christine Skowronek.
Faust Club
Faust Club is a campus organization
devoted to German studies, culture and language. Although a German club
has been in existence for an undetermined time on campus, the Faust
Club received its name during the 1995-96 school year. The Club
encourages people to explore society and cultural aspects of Germany
and to speak and experiment with their German language abilities. Their
activities are varied and change as the membership changes. Some
activities have included visits to the Goethe Institute, frequent
Kaffeeklatches (a sort of coffee and discussion group), movies (in
German culture and often in German) and even a trip to Savannah to
visit the area's historical German roots. Contact Nicoline Strom-Jensen.
French Club
The primary purpose of the French
Club is to stimulate and enhance interest in the language, literature,
and culture of France and French-speaking countries. Students get a
taste of the culture through activities such as taking trips to
museums, watching French films, attending cultural events and eating
French food. The French Club also works with Pi Delta Phi, the French
Honor Society, and the French table, where students can utilize
their speaking skills. All students interested in French culture are
encouraged to join.
