Julia Thompson Smith Chapel Renderings

About the Architects
Maurice Jennings + David McKee Architects, collaborating with landscape architect Carol Johnson of Carol R. Johnson Associates Inc., designed the Julia Thompson Smith Chapel to be in context with its architectural surroundings, using limestone and brick for some of its structural elements.

Jennings + McKee is nationally known for its distinctive contemporary Gothic chapels. Their design philosophy upholds the principles of organic architecture espoused by Frank Lloyd Wright and by Fay Jones. These principles include:

  • Harmony between the building and its natural surroundings
  • Close relationship of the individual elements of a building to each other
  • Generous use of natural light
  • The honest expression of materials
