ATLANTA — Student advisers from Afghanistan, Ghana, Mongolia, Nepal, Suriname and Turkey will share information on trends among college-bound students from their home countries on Nov. 4 at Agnes Scott College.
The 3 p.m. event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Teasley Lecture Hall in Agnes Scott’s Bullock Science Center. A reception follows.
As part of EducationUSA, these advisers are spending three weeks in the United States gathering information to help prospective international students learn about higher education in this country. Upon returning to their home countries, the advisers provide unbiased information and advice to prospective students regarding studying at U.S. colleges and universities. Their positions are funded by the U.S. government to promote study in the U.S.A.
Jennifer A. Lund, director of international education at Agnes Scott, is coordinating the U.S.-based training program in Atlanta from Oct. 31 to Nov. 7 as the advisers visit Agnes Scott College, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia Perimeter College (Clarkston campus), Morehouse College and Georgia State University.
“International students at Agnes Scott are important members of our community. Interacting with the EducationUSA advisers will provide us with information and insights to better serve students from around the world,” said Lund.
The campus visits provide an on-site program of training and discussion at the five Atlanta-area colleges and universities. Advisers will discuss the admissions process with campus officials, sample orientation and other programs available to international students and scholars and meet with faculty, students and staff to gain a picture of current trends and practices on U.S. campuses.
The advisers serve as resources to the institutions they visit by reporting on their home country educational systems, policies and academic training needs and responding to American questions and concerns about international student admissions and orientation. The advisers can also help U.S. colleges identify academic partners in their countries and expand study abroad opportunities for Americans.
EducationUSA is supported financially by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State under the authority of the Fulbright-Hays Act of 1961, as amended. The program is administered by the College Board.
