Agnes Scott College has again been selected for the fourth edition of Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About Colleges. Agnes Scott has been included every year since 2000 and is the only women’s college or Georgia college included.

“Agnes Scott is a college you have to see to believe,” says the book. “It’s not just a beautiful place—though its beauty will surprise you … Its aura will lure you in and everything you thought you knew about women’s colleges will evaporate in the midst of this powerful and warm community.

“All kinds of women come here: bold and timid; rich and poor; liberal and conservative; and especially those still figuring out their place in the world. What they all have in common is a passion to learn and the self-awareness to know that a women’s college is the place where they will grow most.”

Colleges That Change Lives was researched and written by retired New York Times education editor, journalist and longtime student advocate Loren Pope. Pope selected the 40 colleges long before the CTCL non-profit organization was formed and the member schools have never paid any fees to Pope or his publisher to be included in his books: the selections were solely based on the independent judgment and recognized expertise of Pope himself.

Nonetheless, when the 40 colleges began collaborating in 1998, Colleges That Change Lives Inc. and the CTCL.org site was enthusiastically endorsed by Pope until the time of his passing in September 2008. To keep his legacy alive and his message current, his family worked with his longtime literary agent to choose another writer to update future editions of Colleges That Change Lives.
