Received her Ph.D. in 1964 from the Courant Institute at New York University with a thesis on "Canonical Polygons for Finitely Generated Fuchsian Groups" [Abstract] under the direction of Lipmen Bers. Has taught at Lehman College since 1968. Promoted to full professor in 1974. President of the Association for Women in Mathematics (1992-93) and Vice-President of the American Mathematical Society( 1992-95). Has presented an AMS Invited Address (1975) and an MAA Invited Address (1989), as well as the 1993 AWM Noether lecture. Works in the areas of complex analysis and dynamical systems. In 2012 she was elected a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
