ASC Programs and Events

The Office of International Education provides orientation at the beginning of each semester and offers social events and programming throughout the year. Several examples are listed below:

Scottie Sidekick Program
At the orientation for all new students, you will be paired with a returning Agnes Scott student.  She will “show you the ropes” and help you adjust to your new setting.

Chinese Lantern FestivalCoffee & Conversation
These informal gatherings for international students provide ongoing orientation and give you a chance to compare your experience to others’.  Anything is up for discussion, including adjustment issues (food, roommates, classes, etc), cultural observations, humorous stories, and frustrating situations.

International Student Welcome Reception & Concert by the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra
This annual event coordinated by the Atlanta Ministry with International Students (AMIS) and Kiwanis usually happens in late October. A concert by the Symphony Youth Orchestra in Woodruff Arts Center is followed by a reception at First Presbyterian Church. Students from colleges and universities all over Atlanta attend.

International Fashion ShowProgramming by the International Student Association (ISA)
The ISA is open to both international and domestic students. The group strives to provide cultural awareness among all students and to provide support for international students. We, the Office of International Education, work closely with the ISA to hold events that focus on different countries and parts of the world.

Photo Voices: Impressions of a New Culture
Photo Voices is an annual photo contest among Agnes Scott students, faculty and staff.  It is not an “art” contest.  Rather, the photos are judged on their ability to express the photographer’s impression of a new culture.  As international students, you may submit photos taken in the United States or in any other country, as long as it is not your home country.

For news on these and other events, look for emails from our office and "like" us on facebook. Also, let us know if you have ideas for other events – we are always open to suggestions!
