Internships and Employment

Working legally in the United States for students on the F-1 nonimmigrant student visa involves special considerations and restrictions established by the USCIS. Employment opportunities are limited for international students in the United States. On-campus employment is allowed for F-1 visa holders and limited to 20 hours per week during the academic session and 40 hours per week during the vacation periods. Off-campus employment is available only with special permission applied for through the Office of International Education.

Students studying on the J-1 visa should consult their J-1 sponsor for specific details/regulations governing their eligibility for on and off campus employment.
