❏ Read this section of the website thoroughly. It provides information about obtaining a visa, packing, navigating the U.S. Port of Entry, and getting to campus.
❏ Obtain a valid passport. Your passport must be valid at least six months into the future at all times.
❏ Obtain certificates of immunizations and vaccinations. All students must get their immunizations prior to arrival on campus. You will not be able to register for classes until this is complete. There is not enough time between arrival in the United States and registration to obtain the immunizations. Be sure to obtain all documents in English.
❏ Complete the Entrance Health Record form with your physician and return it to the Wellness Center by June 1 either by fax at +1 404-471-6498 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will need to bring the original documents with you when you come to campus.
❏ Obtain copies of important medical and dental records, x-rays and prescriptions. Bring prescriptions with the generic name of the medicine (not the brand name).
❏ Make your flight reservation with the final destination as Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (or ATL) and to arrive on Monday, August 19. When making your travel arrangements, remember that F-1 and J-1 students may enter the United States no more than 30 days prior to the start date listed on the I-20/DS-2019. Also, be sure to allow adequate time for flight connections.
❏ Make reservations at a hotel or other arrangements for lodging if you are arriving before August 19; Agnes Scott housing will not be open until August 19.
❏ Fax or email your complete flight itinerary. Once you have purchased your airline ticket, please fill out the OIE Travel Schedule Form (see Appendix) with the details of your flights: each airline’s name and the departure and arrival times in each city that is a part of your journey to Atlanta. The completed form is to be sent to our office either by email to email@example.com or by fax to +1 404-471-5383. If you have family or friends picking you up at the Atlanta airport, please indicate this on your form and the approximate arrival time to campus on August 19.
❏ Arrange for finances to cover the costs of tuition, student fees, health insurance and cost of living expenses such as housing and food. It is a good idea to have at least US $500 upon arrival. If possible, connect with other students or Agnes Scott alumnae. The OIE facebook page is a great place to start!
❏ Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee online at https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/ and print your receipt.
❏ Make an appointment for an F-1 student visa at the U.S. embassy or consulate. Visit the U.S. Department of State to locate a consulate.
❏ Obtain your F-1 student visa. Bring your scholarship and admissions letter, immigration document I-20, valid passport, and original documents that demonstrate one academic year’s worth of finances as indicated on your I-20 to the U.S. embassy or consulate.
❏ Obtain copies of financial documents that show how you will be supported while you are at Agnes Scott. You may be asked for these during inspection at the U.S. port of entry.
❏ Reconfirm your flight reservations 72 hours before departure.
❏ Pack and get ready for your new adventure!
