After revolutionizing the rap world with his socially-conscious group Public Enemy, Chuck D continues his expansion into modern media to include commentary on CNN and Fox News, a best-selling autobiography and innovative promotion of Internet file sharing. In 2001 his record label, SLAMjamz launched an online and offline distribution channel, followed shortly by an Internet radio station, bringthenoise.com—a move that made Public Enemy the first multiplatinum act to release an album via the Internet before it was available in retail stores. Chuck D’s media empire has led to profiles in Forbes, Time, Fortune and Herring as well as a nod from Upside magazine as one of their “Elite 100” Internet leaders alongside Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. But his first love remains the relentless social commentary he began with Public Enemy and continues with his radio, television, book and documentary projects.
