Martha Ackmann, author of
The Mercury 13 and a professor at Mount Holyoke College, relates the experiences of test pilots who secretly trained to be astronauts in the 1960s. Politics intervened and they were not allowed to fly, but they opened doors for Sally Ride and other more famous women doing dangerous jobs.
Part of
Project Galileo, the lecture is hosted by
McCain Library in partnership with the Georgia Center for the Book and with generous support from the
Georgia Humanities Council, the Minter Family Foundation and the Mount Holyoke College Alumnae Association.
