Agnes Scott Head volleyball coach Catherine Geerlings is one of twelve recipients of the Minority Coaches Scholarship given by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). This scholarship gives the recipients an opportunity to participate in the ninth professional coaching workshop for minority women as well as the NCAA youth clinic, to be held in conjunction with the 2011 AVCA Annual Convention this December in San Antonio, Texas.

When asked what she was most looking forward to at the AVCA Convention Geerlings said, “as a second year coach, I am looking forward to learning how to become a better coach by expanding my knowledge of the game and learning how to make practices both productive and fun. I would also love to learn more about building programs, how to successfully recruit Division III players, and ways to successfully retain players while rebuilding a program into a successful program.”

Coach Geerlings is well on her way to rebuilding the volleyball program at Agnes Scott. The team finished this season with the best volleyball record in school history and almost tripled the number of wins from last year, going from five wins to 14.

Coach Geerlings is from San Antonio, Texas and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
