ASC Swimming Preview 2007-08
The 2007-08 will be a season of first for ASC Swimming. Veteran ASC coach Laura LeDuc will be at the helm of the Scottie swim program for the first time, and over half the team will be competing at the collegiate level for the first time.
Despite these firsts, Coach LeDuc is excited about the prospects for her young team. "We have so much potential, and I am looking forward to being able to really focus individually on each athlete to help her achieve her goals" said LeDuc. A solid group of returning talent will guide the Scotties this season. Sophomore Caitlin Shull (Rochester, MN) will lead the pack, having been crowned a triple winner at last year's Atlantic States Swim Championships. Look for her to defend her titles in the 200, 500, and 1650 freestyles. Shull will be joined by two other returners: senior captain Kaitlyn Fernandez (Lilburn, GA) and sophomore Maggie Hamilton (Stone Mountain, GA). The stellar efforts of this duo helped earn the 5-member Scottie team a fourth place finish overall at the 2007 Atlantic States Swim Championships. Watch for Fernandez and Hamilton to duke it out in the backstroke events.
New additions to the Scottie roster include first-years April Whitley (Las Vegas, NV), Sophia Newton (Conyers, GA), Hannah Lumpry (Missoula, MT), and Haifa Wright-Hulett (Chamblee, GA). Whitley brings the most experience and excels in breaststroke and IM, Lumpry in the distance freestyle events, and Wright-Hulett and Newton will work to gain experience in the backstroke and shorter freestyle events. Joining the first-year quartet will be senior exchange student Julia Kargl (Puchenau, Austria), who will bring her experience as a tri-athlete to the Scottie distance free lineup.
Cheer for the Team!
