Various college admission resources suggest the following tips as part of your on-campus visit process:
- Schedule your visit while classes are in session and students are on campus to give you the best glimpse of what the college is like on a typical day.
- Planning is important. Request a tour time slot as early as possible. Most colleges have a limited number of tours during the week, and fewer on weekends. Additionally, most colleges only offer tours at specific times of the day so dropping in is not always the best option.
- Schedule an on-campus interview when you visit. Ideally, the interview should also be scheduled with the college before you get to campus. Make sure to research the college before you visit so that you can ask appropriate questions and know why that college interests you.
- If you have the time, attend a class. If possible, request a class in your desired area of study. This will be a great way for you to see how the school's students interact in class and to see what some of the school’s faculty are like.
- Also, schedule a meeting with a coach if you plan on participating in a varsity sport. This meeting can help you discern what your place in the program would be, and if the school’s team is what you’re looking for. It will also tell you what information you need to submit in order to be considered to be on the team.
